Completion of the following workshops:

eL301 Introduction to Active Learning
eL302 Equity-Minded and Culturally Responsive Teaching for Student Motivation and Success
eL303 Presence in the Phases of a Course
eL304 Active Delivery Strategies
eL305 Active Delivery and Scaffolding

This certification is the accomplishment of the following five individual workshops that have been built from the eL222 Institute.

Format

This is a 2 week, fully online asynchronous workshop, intentionally modeling online courses, and there are no scheduled Zoom meetings. This workshop is not self-paced and there are weekly due dates of Thursday for initial posts and Sunday for reply posts and all other assignments.

The only exception is during Week 1 when we have an early due date of Tuesday for the Orientation assignments. You will receive a Canvas invitation to access the workshop the Friday before the workshop starts if you would like to complete the Orientation assignments early.

There is an optional third week if you need extra time to complete the final deliverables.

Workshop Preparation

This workshop includes working on learning activities and deliverables for a course that has online instruction for the learning activities and deliverables. Identify a fully online asynchronous course you plan to work on for the learning activities and deliverables in this workshop before the workshop starts.

If your course is hybrid or online scheduled (remote):

You can use a hybrid or online scheduled (remote) course for this workshop, focus on planning the online instructional components of the course for the learning activities and deliverables.

If your course is in-person:

Please contact your division/department chair to strategize on which courses you might teach fully online asynchronous for in the future. It's important to identify a course before the workshop starts.

Active Delivery Certification Program Description

Research shows the following course elements result in greater motivation and retention and completion for students in eLearning courses:

Learning activities that are actively designed and delivered
Inclusive and dynamic learning communities
Productive relationships between learners and instructors.

This 5-workshop series aims for these results by assessing determinants of presence and related instructor roles, planning and developing formative feedback focused on student achievement of learning objectives, and evaluating and applying universally-designed, equity-minded, and culturally-responsive Active Delivery strategies.

This eL302, Equity-minded and Culturally Responsive Teaching for Student Motivation and Success workshop is the second workshop in the series. eL302, eL303, eL304, and eL305 can be taken in any order.

Active Delivery Certification Program Learning Objectives (PLOs)

Set up and design at least one online course in the Canvas LMS with Active Delivery strategies applied.
Design and demonstrate the implementation of a Community of Inquiry (CoI) within the same online course through the effective use of instructional technology and the facilitation of collaborative and active learning behaviors.
Implement technology to build effective learning strategies.

In this workshop, we will:

define student retention, persistence, success, and completion
implement motivation, engagement, student success, diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies to support student success and completion
create a week one academic activity that meets Financial Aid requirements
create an accessible syllabus applying the eLearning Syllabus Template

Late Work/No Show Policy

Participants who have not begun actively participating in the learning activities by Thursday morning of Week 1 will be removed from the workshop.

We facilitators will “nudge” you each week about any missing learning activities, assessments, or deliverables. Make sure to review your feedback to ensure that you’re achieving the intended learning and application from the workshop.

Our rigorous workshop schedule does not permit us to extend deadlines beyond the final workshop date.
