Join Biology Professor Dr. Josie Lesage in an exploration of community science!

Have you heard about “citizen science” or “community science” and been curious about what it involves? Have you ever wanted to bring citizen science data collection or analysis into your classroom? Are you curious about how classes across disciplines (sciences and non-sciences!) can get students involved in real research happening at institutions around the world?

Come to “Community Science in the College Classroom” at the TLC this Fall! This workshop will define what citizen and community science are, showcase examples of lessons that use or collect citizen science data, and explore some of the community/citizen science resources available for you to consider bringing into your classroom. You’ll leave with some ideas of how you could bring citizen science into your classes, and resources to make it possible.

This workshop takes place in person on Clark's main campus in GHL 205. Day and time: October 25, 10 - 11:30 am. The TLC will provide coffee and tea, pastries, and fruit.

About Your Facilitator

Dr. Josie Lesage teaches in the Earth and Environmental Sciences department here at Clark. Josie is a strong believer in using real-life data collection, analysis, and hands-on experiences to help students connect concepts to their lives. In the past, she has used community science in the classroom to get students interested in research, and has guided members of the public in post-wildfire data collection efforts.
